Greg Raymer is one of the most colorful and successful professional poker players in the United States. He has won twelve money finishes in the World Series of Poker and one bracelet.  In addition, he has also had a money finish on the World Poker Tour. Known as the Fossilman, Greg Raymer has become known for his distinctive presence donning opaque holographic sunglasses and using a fossil to guard his hand. Like most professional poker players Greg Raymer is a real character and has a personality all his own. Greg Raymer is known as a money maker on the professional poker circuit.

By profession, Greg Raymer is a patent attorney having graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1992. He was born in North Dakota in 1964 but has lived throughout the United States. In 1999, Greg Raymer moved to Stonington, CT where he became a patent attorney for Pfizer Pharmaceutical. It was in Connecticut at nearby Foxwoods Casino that Raymer began his professional poker career. In 2001, Greg Raymer had his first money finish in the World Series of Poker. In 2004, he won five million in the Texas Hold Em main event at the WSOP. It is estimated that as of 2008, Greg Raymer’s overall winnings from professional poker are six million dollars.

IN 2005, as the defending champ of the WSOP, Greg Raymer stunned the world of professional poker when he placed number 25 out of over five thousand entrants in the event. That finish is considered one of the most amazing events ever to happen by professional poker players and see it as one of Raymer’s most astounding achievements. Greg Raymer also took part in the very first televised British Poker Open in London which became the UK’s biggest live poker event in history. He placed well in that tournament netting an estimated twenty thousand Euros.  

These days Greg Raymer prefers staying home in Raleigh, North Carolina with his wife Cheryl and daughter Sophie to the rigorous travel schedule of a professional poker player. Greg Raymer participates in few tournaments, but does take part in the World Series of Poker ever year. In 2006, Raymer told an interviewer he was considering a run for Vice President in 2008 on the Libertarian Party ticket. Greg Raymer no longer practices law and one of his hobbies remains collecting fossils which earned him the Fossilman poker name.
